The Ashland Market & Cafe (AMC) opened its door to the community in March 2019. As part of a growing effort to support local entrepreneurship and build wealth in unincorporated Alameda County, Mandela Partners, the Alameda County Community Development Agency, and Resources for Community Development (RCD) came together to create a vibrant food hall for local limited-resource entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs of color looking to sell their products in a retail food environment.
Vendors also receive on-going business advisement, marketing promotions, and culinary development support from Mandela Partners.
With the challenges unincorporated Eden Area experienced in the last year, AMC found its network of local partners grow considerably as initiatives to support the community went underway.
From connecting with organizations in meal distributions and sharing of resources across social media platforms, to actively participating in local meetings and launching a CSA (community supported agriculture) box program, AMC has begun to envision itself as resource for the community and small business owners.
AMC hopes to continue to find unique opportunities to uplift unincorporated Alameda County residents with entrepreneurship programming & events, and collaborative efforts with local community-based organizations.
